Being Effy + Wearable lingerie

As I said in my last post Effy doesn't dress to please others. She is the typical grunge girl and I love her for that. Recreating her style was challenging since I usually try to be more polished, but it was exciting and a little wild for me to try her looks. I did, however, find a designer in the May issue of Nylon magazine who makes lingerie-type tops inspired by the '30s and '40s. The brand is called Overton Monroe and their intention was to make "wearable lingerie as a textural layering piece." Check out their site and I will show how I layer vintage lingerie in an upcoming post.

Note: this shoot was purely done to test "Effy-ish" looks. The cigarette used in some of the photos is purely for character purposes. I DO NOT support the use of tobacco products.
Thanks!

Who is Effy anyway?

Effy, played by the beyond gorgeous Kaya Rose Scodelario, is the younger sister of Tony on the UK based Skins. I couldn't sleep one night and read on PerezHilton about a British TV series that followed young teens as they grew up in a suburb of London. The catch was that they showed how young teens dealt with issues on sex, drugs, and all things normally not shown on American TV. Course, never one to stir away from watching such shows I clicked on the link and couldn't stop watching. The actors played their characters with such vigor that it was a done deal for me, I was hooked. I downloaded all the episodes I could find and spent the rest of the summer catching up on old seasons. (they are currently shooting season 5 with a brand new cast fyi!)
None of the other character spoke to me as much as Effy. Her look is the epitome of grunge. Think heavy eyeliner..that are more on her face than eyes.. (hence my blog name), Doc Martins, ripped tights, black leather jackets, lingerie as tops (gasps!), and lots and lots of chains. So why was I so attracted to this up-kept character? I believe it was just that, her character was sooooo un-put-together that I couldn't look away.  I tried to copy her look as best as one could with Kat and although we got some interesting looks from passer-byers it was all very fun.

Below are images that inspired us.... photos from the shoot will be up shortly!

Stunning, isn't she?

MP..Effy Style

Yesterday, I had the privilege of working with one of my dear and talented friends Kat. We went out to my pool area and shot some fun photos using my dad's hand-me-down camera (which is still a really awesome camera btw).
Anyway, whilst in New York I found an amazing pair of vintage corduroy pants my auntie used to rock in the 70's. Being the sweet natured auntie she is, she let me have them! The looks in this story range from office wear, to a night out on the town with your girls. If you're daring enough to try the mixed print look remember color palette is key. I kept it safe using darker shades of color such as: auburn, purple, and brown.
Never be afraid of taking risks, especially in fashion...
