Mixed Prints

I love when designers and stylists create looks using mixed prints and textures. It can sometimes turn into a a fashion disaster but if you stick with color combinations that compliment one another the effect can be stunning. In the March issue of Nylon magazine (one of my favorites btw) writer Colin Firth wrote about budding designer Michael Van Der Ham who is now becoming famous for his use of mixing fabrics that offset one another. Firth calls it "wearable collages" combining luxe fabrics such as cashmere, silk, plush velvet, and soft jersey.
Check out his site and try the look out for yourself. It's daring and not for the shy fashionista but its a look when done right will definitely make an entrance!

Dress For Less

I've heard several times from ladies and gentlemen that they cannot afford to dress fashionably. Well, I'm here to tell you that it most certainly is possible to dress fashionably while on a budget. Lots of designers are feeling the pressure from department stores that their pricing is too grand for an economy in a recession. Thanks to stores like Target and Topshop people on a budget, such as myself, are able to splurge on items we originally could not afford. I tend to save my allowance and go to Nordstrom Rack because they usually have really amazing deals if you take the time to search through their items.
Recently, I've fallen in love with the 'bandage' look that Herve Leger has made iconic throughout the years. The only problem is that their price point is incredible high ($950-$3,00). So, I've had to look for alternative brands that offer the same look but for much more reasonable prices. I came across brands such as: Pleasure Doing Business and BCBG MaxAzaria and found that I could achieve the same look but for less.
 Also while I was on the east coast my family took me to Pier Village in New Jersey and I came across  this amazing boutique that offered bandage skirts and dresses for as little as $20-50 dollars! If you ever find yourself there please visit Jenna&Molly boutique and tell them that S sent you from Effy's Eyeliner for a wicked sweet discount. The ladies who work there tell me that they get new clothing and jewelry daily so hurry on over there as quickly as possible! This look was inspired by the movie Country Strong. Gwyneth Paltrow's weardrobe was glamorously disheveled... think loads of diamonds and expensive furs. I watched it during my flight back home and just had to emulate her look. Hopefully I did it justice.

Update

Hello everyone! It's so nice to be back home.  New York was absolutely amazing and I met some really awesome people. Sadly, I did injure my back again :( and will be on bed rest today.  Post tomorrow will feature How to Dress for Less.

Basics Continued...

Sorry babes, I spent the weekend in New York City and captured some really sweet shots so I'll be editing those tonight. Here are a few photos from the 'Basics' post that I did not add which include the vintage Gap jacket and Chanel purse I meant to feature.

I had the pleasure of picking up my Godchild from school the other day and again wore my gray Bailey 44 top. It's hard not to wear this top everyday because it is seriously, and I mean seriously, comfortable. And since its gray it can be paired with practically any color scheme. When traveling I like to pack comfortably so of course I brought it with me on my mini-holiday. I wore it with True Religion jeans, Sperry flats, and my Hobo purse to add a bit of color.

A Guide to Traveling

I am currently waiting for my flight to new york! (thank you free wireless internet) There are a couple of essential items one must always bring while traveling:
1. white top anything style
2. black and nude pumps
3. flats and/or walking shoes
4. black purse and a statement purse
5. light and dark was jeans or shorts....and...
6. ACCESSORIES! super duper important if you want to travel light but still look stylish! I suggest bringing brooches (great for making tops or dresses more fitted) cocktail rings, bangles, and my personal favorite 'bib' necklaces.

I snapped a few photos of some of the accessories that I packed with me. Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to label the items but as soon as I'm settled at my aunties I will add where each item is from.

Yay for summer vacation! :)

quick post today!
Last night I was not expecting to go out, but naturally I was suckered into going out...wahwahwah..jk of course. But, I did have to rush an outfit and this is what i came up with. Simple and basic, with my hair pulled up and little makeup.
